Psalm 12:6-7A
“Because the poor are plundered and the needy groan,
I will now arise,” says the Lord.
“I will protect them from those who malign them.”
And the words of the Lord are flawless like silver.
Explanation of this artwork
The central theme in this Psalm is ‘I will now arise’. This is the voice of God Himself. Amidst the apocalyptic chaos of life, Jesus remains our Saviour. The Lord knows about the attacks on the weak. He hears the cries of those who are oppressed. These are the Living Words against the meaninglessness of human words. – Jedi Noordegraaf
Which lies did you believe?
Children can be indoctrinated with destructive beliefs which can haunt them for years to come. We see suffering amongst people whose lives are being crushed by failing government policies. Much injustice in this world is too cruel to witness and sometimes we have to endure abusive situations for a long time. This can make you feel helpless and powerless. Trust that is broken isn’t easily restored.
Halfway the twelfth Psalm a Divine intervention takes place. It breaks straight through the desperation. Pure truth is revealed to counteract the human lie. This is the liberation you were longing for. This is the freedom you yearned after. What are things you find unpalatable? What lies were you made to believe in?
Psalm 12
For the director of music. According to sheminith.
A psalm of David.
Help, Lord, for no one is faithful anymore;
those who are loyal have vanished from the human race.
Everyone lies to their neighbor;
they flatter with their lips
but harbor deception in their hearts.
May the Lord silence all flattering lips
and every boastful tongue – those who say,
“By our tongues we will prevail;
our own lips will defend us – who is lord over us?”
“Because the poor are plundered and the needy groan,
I will now arise,” says the Lord.
“I will protect them from those who malign them.”
And the words of the Lord are flawless,
like silver purified in a crucible,
like gold refined seven times.
You, Lord, will keep the needy safe
and will protect us forever from the wicked,
who freely strut about
when what is vile is honored by the human race.
